34 years ago today, in 1989, my mother died. And I

34 years ago today, in 1989, my mother died. And I must say, this is the first year of me being truly present to FEEL her loss on this day.

Therapy this past nine months has allowed me to finally meet the girl whose mom died when she was 13 years old. The little girl who spent most of her life with a mother wound. With a disconnect. Being emotionally unavailable.

In fact, I was talking to my brother a couple of months ago about this and he described me as being ‘ice cold’ to things that would normally shake most people. Detached.

What other 13 year old little girl could come home from the hospital after seeing her mom code blue and die and call all her mom's friends to inform them of her death?

Being ice cold is what allowed me to get through all the turbulent years and come out ‘seemingly’ unscathed. I've lived the past 34 years in survival mode. But thank God I don't have to be HER anymore.

I get to take off the masks and meet parts of myself that I never knew existed. And I like her a lot.

She's just here to live and enjoy life, love with a big heart, and share her light in the best way that she knows how.

So rest easy mommy. Finally. Because your little girl is okay. ❤️
